Fresh vegetables are great when you're up to the extra prep. I usually use frozen because I eat out a lot and hate buying vegetables to only end up letting them go to waste. It can be maddening when your food puts you on a schedule :-) Anyway, frozen is simply easier and there's more variety. So switch up but never do canned vegetables - mushy = yuck!
Drink: Milk or a non-dairy beverage (some of us can't drink milk - try Almond, hazelhut, or soy, "milk"
Dessert or snack for later:
a serving of ice cream or sorbet
What to do weekly
generate 7 meals and go shopping for the ingredients. You'll basically need 7 cans of
beans, 7 bags of frozen vegetables, 1 cup each of 7 different rices
from the bulk foods section.
If you're like me and have a favorite (basmati) simply use it instead of the suggested rice

17 to-do’s for quick, easy dinner recipes
Rally’s slogan “you gotta eat”
sums up an important part of everyday life. We eat every single day.
Food could very easily consume 20% or more of your waking existence. (That's not an exagerration - do the math.)
Sometimes that’s okay. Food’s important and we should spend enjoying it and time
learning about and choosing what we put in our bodies. Yet … some
things can be put on auto and sometimes there are weeks or months
where you just want/need to nourish your body without taxing you brain and your schedule.
Here’s 17 things you can do to make eating healthy fit into your
life without becoming a job.
- Make meals interesting yet relaxing. It’ll help improve your digestion which will provide you with enough energy to live right.
- Use organic meats as much as possible. We’re just learning how harmful hormones in food are, especially for the female body. Think about the time you've lost due to fatique.
- Let the others choose. If you’re cooking for/with others let them have some say in the recipe and/or the menu. You can use the time they're thinking about dinner to do something else - like get a massage.
- Take the time to learn about the ingredients in any packaged foods you regularly buy- again with the causes of fatique.
- Imitate your favorite restaurant meal. It’s fun to see how close you can get to that “I love this” taste. Plus if you get it right you can sometimes skip the extra time it takes to have a restaurant meal.
- Post the menu for the week. Making the decision once and committing it to paper helps take it off your mind. And you won't have to aswer the question "what's for dinner".
- Use good tools. The pots and knives you use can make a difference in how easy it is to prepare food and in how it looks and tastes. And the right tools always make a job easier and quicker.
- Remember to try new foods. This is especially easy during the spring and summer when farmer’s markets and other local food opportunities abound. During the cold months experiment with beans and grains. The more options you have for things you know and like the quicker you can show and the more deals you can get in on.
- Pass on prepackaged foods as much as possible. Anything with a lot of chemical sounding ingredients should be eaten sparingly. You'll live longer - the ultimate "I need more time" fix.
- Organize your pantry, cabinets, and refrigerator. A place for everything and everything in its place is a very helpful saying. You’ll be surprised at how useful it is to have a super organized kitchen. Do it once and it's done. Don't spend another second wondering where something is or where things should go.
- Sample different vegetables and fruits. Whenever you have the opportunity to try a new food go for it. You get bold points!
- Eat slowly. Try chewing your food more than you usually do. It’s a simple task that will surprise you with its benefits. You've saved time using the other tips :-)
- Walk after as many meals as possible. Even a short 15-minute walk is beneficial. Make it a ritual.-again with the adding to your life theme.
- Outsource some of the cooking! Try a local personal chef or order from Home Bistro.com. they have some wonderful meals that come frozen but are more special than grocery freezer meals.
- Make enough to have for lunch or dinner the next day.Cook once, eat twice is tried and true.
- Add up how much you spend eating out for one month and then decide if that’s how you really want to spend that amount of money. Check out the conscious spending life area.
- Never Eat Alone
That’s the title of a book about networking and some useful advice. I’d never really say never but eating often with company is a great way to multi-task You gotta eat … and you need companionship.
