What Every Woman Should Know About Divination
It makes sense to begin Divination 101 talking about Fortune cookies. Why? Because fortune cookies have a long tradition, plus they are a simple, easy to find commodity. Have you ever been given one? You participated in divination if you opened it and read what was on the slip of paper.
Unfortunately, it seems that some of the fortune cookies given out today contain a platitude instead of a forecast. Something along the lines of “One minute of time is worth more than one ounce of gold.” or “Ideas are like children: there are none so wonderful as your own.” Finds like these are nice and may mean something to you but they are not fortunes. So in my mind they violate expectations. But it’s not that big of a deal - just sometimes disappointing.
If you were lucky your slip had a prediction. It may also have your lucky lottery numbers on the back :-)
Why are you lucky if your cookie actually contained a fortune?
When you crack open a fortune cookie and read something that makes you think, “is that true?” or “wouldn’t it be wonderful if that really happen?” or something similar you have added a wonderment to your day. Introducing that tiny bit of curiosity will have you looking at everyday things differently. It will have your mind working overtime trying to fit the input from the cookie into patterns that regularly occur in your life. You want it to happen, to be true, to change something. That’s a gift from divination through the cookie to you.
Divination is a time-honored way to access your intuition. Being open to and aware of intuitive thoughts and feelings is one tool of creative living. Too much of what is in our heads is about and from other people. Listening to yourself is an experience worth having repeatedly. Divination can help you achieve and practice that state of listening to and hearing yourself. Use Introspective Oracle pages at MultiPurposeWoman to prod yourself into trying new ideas and having new thoughts and experiences.
Here’s a fun way to introduce the power of divination into your life
Have a batch of fortune cookies made for your next celebration or to use as part of a daily ritual. For extra fun points, perform Aleuromancy and make a batch yourself. Aleuromancy is divination through flour. There are many ways to do this. Buying fortune cookies is just one.
Another route is to make your own “fortune” pastries. The item you bake could be non-traditional. Tonya, a character on the TV show Hung, baked poems into pastries. This is a wonderful gift idea as well. Spend ten minutes or so brainstorming something that’s uniquely you.
