Why create a website? Why did I create MPW?
I love making things. I usually work with fabrics and fibers. Collage is my process.
Making a website is very much like making a collage. It allows me to take many interesting things and arrange and rearrange them until they feel the way I want them to.
The website making is also like my art making in that the literal website creation is something that I can do alone but then after the creation I am forced to come out of my hermit’s cave and seek kindred.
By nature I’m solitary. I’d rather be alone then in a crowd. Over the years, I’ve learned that the solitary habit might be my nature but its not the best thing for me. Creating a website – actually the promoting of the website – is an attempt to force myself out into the open more often
Without traffic a website is like a diary or notes on a napkin; unread by anyone except you. You want people to visit your website.
Key phrases are the ticket to getting traffic. After a lot of trial and error I've come up with some guidelines for myself about key phrases for MPwoman. 13 total to optimize for on different pages and to track.
I use word tracker
Criteria I use for adopting key phrases; KEI - the usefulness of this number is disputed. I like using it to help me compare apples to oranges. A keywords metatag should have a maximum of 100 character, including spaces. Of the 13, only 3 can have a KEI of less than 1. These are mostly very popular terms found in the top 1000 most searched terms. Every life area needs at least 3 key phrases with a KEI of 100 or more. The remainders should have a KEI of at least 10, per word tracker, to be considered "good".
