fireside chat: ¿What Does Happy Mean to You?
|
Gwen's Soliloquy:Defining what happy means is harder than it sounds if our goal is to experience happiness. We can start with the general dictionary definition; characterized by or indicative of pleasure, contentment, well-being, good fortune, or joy. That doesn't really seem to get us much farther down the happiness trail.
We can continue playing with the dictionary and acknowledge that happy is an adjective and not a verb. I like action, so maybe the more useful question is What Do You Do (or need to do) to Be Happy?
I started playing with the happy-happiness questions a while back and finally decided that I should turn happy into the acronym H.A.P.P.Y. It means that I am happy when I am Healthy, Affluent, Productive, Peaceful, and Yin-like. (... adjectives can be useful)
The good thing about H.A.P.P.Y. is that I've already achieved a high level of health, affluence, productivity, peacefulness, and yin-likeness. So while I'm getting even better there's the build-in gratitude check.
