Gwendolyn Kelly Who am I? - a 3rd person bio
Gwendolyn LeJune Kelly was conceived in South Carolina but born/raised in Louisville, Ky. She learned to read at Dan C. Byck Elementary (the most important event of her life!) then attended John B. McFerran Elementary and Samuel V. Noe Middle. She graduated from Ballard High School in 1981 (still carries a grudge). She earned MA & BFA degrees from the University of Louisville.
Gwendolyn Kelly is a Kentucky based feminist artist
Gwendolyn's been an artist since second grade when Mrs. Mattie White taught her to crochet. She has work included in Fiber Arts Design Books 6 and 7
published by Lark Books and has received Artist Enrichment grants from the Kentucky Foundation for Women. She had a one-woman exhibition in the Spring of 2009 at Spalding University's Huff Gallery.
Previous group exhibitions include the Water Tower Annual, the African American Invitational Art Exhibition at Actors Theatre, and the Small Works International at Amos Eno Gallery in New York,
In addition to her studio work, Gwen facilitates creativity
Gwendolyn has provided many art and creativity workshops and classes around Kentucky. She has worked with the Speed Art Museum, the Kentucky Center for the Arts, the Kentucky Art and Craft Foundation, the Kentucky Arts Council, Louisville Visual Arts Association's Open Doors Program and Children's Free Art Classes, and other organizations.
Strangely, Gwendolyn loves labels
Gwen is a serious self-help junkie. She reads all the books and takes all the tests. Here are some labels that she doesn't mind having attached to her ....
Since October 2006 Gwen has hosted a weekly open-to-the-community Jewelry Making studio in the California Neighborhood of west Louisville where she has lived since 1992.
Present and Future Goals
Gwen has dreams and plans to write and publish a series of novels. Many years ago, she was awarded a two-week residence at Hedgebrook Women's Writers Retreat on Whidbey Island. She stayed in Oak Cottage, ate great food cooked by a Louisville chef named Ella, met some amazing women writers, and did a lot of thinking and sorting of papers and ideas. She needs to return to Hedgebrook.
Gwen is a MultiPurposeWoman
She loves reading and walking with her dog, M.A.G. (Magnificent Animal Girl). Reading is the great passion of her life and because of all the input her mind produces a lot of output in the form of ideas and possibilities. She thinks too much and sometimes believes she suffers from hypergraphia. Anyway, she's tired of talking about herself in 3rd person and will blog here while working on the MultiPurpose-Woman website, GwendolynKelly.com and many other projects.
blog, blog, blog - random musings on happiness and life in general
When a woman is free to study, surrender, and serve without
hindrance, to embrace silence, simplicity and solvency without
question,
When a woman is free to do these things she will
naturally and supernaturally live in a State of Serenity.
The
State of Serenity was the name of my first website. It was at some free
space and they folded. The above quote is obviously were I got the name
for the site. The quote is also the goal for that earlier site and
Multipurposewoman.
I rediscovered the Serenity Creed
while sorting and purging a container of health related papers. The
source is not listed and I don't remember. If you know the source or
have a lead please leave me a note.
